Country Chic Hen Wall Hanging

 Time for another country chic wall hanging. This time a saucy little hen to brighten your space.

Supplies and Equipment

• 8" x 8" x ¼" Baltic birch plywood or hardwood
• Country Chic Hen pattern of choice (6" x 4" or 10" x 8")
• Proxxon Bandsaw MBS/E
• Proxxon Delta Sander OZI/E
• Bench Drill Press TBM 115
• Twine
• Googly eyes
• Hanging hardware
• Acrylic paint
• Liquid wood adhesive

Instructions

1. Cover one side of the blank with painter's tape. Mist the back side of the pattern with spray adhesive, and mount on the taped blank.  The painter's tape makes removal of the pattern easy without leaving any sticky residue. 
   
   
   
2. Cut out the shapes on the bandsaw or the Proxxon Scroll Saw DS 460.
   
   
   
3. Before removing the pattern, mark the holes for hanging the feet.
   
   
   
4. Sand the edges of all the pieces. I use the Delta sander mounted in the Precision Vice FMZ.
   
   
   
5. Use the drill press to drill the holes marked in Step 3. Use a piece of waste wood under the piece to help prevent tear out.
   
   
   
6. Finish the wall hanging by painting the pieces and assembling the hen. Glue the googly eyes, bow, wings and beak to the body with wood adhesive. Use twine to attach the feet to the body. Attach hanging hardware to back of country chic hen.

Country Chic Cuts of Pork Wall Hanging

• 9" x 5" x ¾" Baltic birch plywood or hardwood
• Cuts of Pork Pattern
• Cuts of Pork Labels file
• Proxxon Table Saw FET

Instructions:

1. Cut the 9" x 5" blank to size on the table saw.
   
   
   
2. Cover one side of the blank with painter's tape. Mist the back side of the pattern with spray adhesive, and mount on the taped blank.  The painter's tape makes removal of the pattern easy without leaving any sticky residue. 
3. Cut the pig silhouette on the bandsaw.
   
   
   
4. Cut the details of the outline on the scroll saw.
   
   
   
5. Mount the 3mm semi-spherical punch in the micro press.
   
   
   
6. Punch the dotted lines using the micro press. Press gently with only enough pressure to make an indentation without breaking through the surface of the wood. I suggest practicing on a scrap of the same wood that you're using for the wall hanging.
   
   
   
7. Sand the edges and surfaces with the Delta sander.
   
   
   
8. Following the manufacturer's application instructions, coat the piece with the antiquing wax. Set aside to dry over night.
   
   
   
9. Buff the surface of the wall hanging. I created this buffing pad by tracing the shape of the Delta sander head and cutting the pad from a piece of upholstery velvet.
   
   
   
10. Add the labels either by hand lettering or cutting the words from vinyl.
11. Add appropriate hanging hardware.

Country Chic Pig Wall Hanging

This pig is the second in a series of country chic wall hangings. The first was a country chic sheep. More are in the works, so check back often to catch them all.

Supplies and Equipment

• ~8" x 8" x ¾" MDF or Baltic birch plywood or scraps to accommodate body and feet patterns

2. Mount the pattern pieces on the blank.
   
3. Cut the pattern pieces using the bandsaw or scroll saw.
   
4. Sand any uneven edges on the disc sander.
   
5. Use the bench drill press to drill holes for attaching the feet. Putting a 1/8" piece of scrap wood under the piece to be drilled helps to eliminate tear-out.
   
6. Paint the pieces with FolkArt acrylic paints.
   
7. Attach a small hanger on the reverse side of the body.
8. Make corkscrew tail with 6" length of satin ribbon.
1. Spiral the 18″ length of ribbon around a small knitting needle or skewer.
2. Secure the ribbon ends with clips.
3. Mist lightly with water.
4. Bake in the oven at 250° F for 20 minutes.
5. When ribbon is cool, gently slide off skewer.
9. Glue pieces and tail in place with liquid wood adhesive.
   
10. Paint eyes and nose hole details with black paint, or glue black rhinestones in place.
11. Cut cording into four 7" lengths, and us to attach feet to body.

How to Make a Country Chic Sheep Wall Hanging

• Jewelry chain, ribbon, leather cording, etc. for attaching the feet

• FolkArt Outdoor acrylic paint
• Water based liquid adhesive

3. Cut the shapes using the scroll saw. Note: The face piece can be cut from ¼" MDF or plywood.
   
4. Sand edges on the disc sander.
   
5. Complete detail sanding with the Delta sander.
   
6. Use the bench drill press to drill the holes on the body and each foot. Position the adjustable fence to ensure accurate and consistent placement.
   
7. Paint the pieces with FolkArt Outdoor acrylic paint.
   
8. Attach a hanger to the back side of the body.
   
9. Cut the body pattern from patterned paper, and adhere to the body with liquid adhesive.
10. Glue the face piece to the body piece.
    
11. Optionally, add bead or rhinestone eyes and flower bow.
12. Using jewelry chain, ribbon, or leather cording attach feet to body.

How to Make a St. Patrick's Day Wall Hanging

Supplies and Equipment to Make the St. Patrick's Day Wall Hanging

• One piece 5" x 4" x 1/8" Baltic birch plywood for base
• One piece 4" x 4" x 1/8" Baltic birch plywood for shamrock
• Fifteen 10" lengths of a variety of ribbons
• FolkArt Glitterific acrylic paint (gold)
• FolkArt Extreme Glitter acrylic paint (peridot)
• Strong liquid adhesive
• Proxxon Table Saw FET
• Proxxon Scroll Saw DS 460
• Proxxon Bench Drill Press TBM 115
• Proxxon Thermocut 115/E

Instructions for Making the St. Patrick's Day Wall Hanging

1. Use the table saw to cut the Baltic birch plywood to appropriate sizes.
   
2. Mount the shamrock pattern onto the 4" x 4" blank, and cut out the shape using the scroll saw.
   
3. Measure and mark two holes ½" from each side and ½" from the top of the base blank for the ribbon hanger. Measure and mark seven holes for the ribbon streamers ½" from the bottom of the base blank.
4. Use the bench drill press to drill these holes. Securely position the stop to ensure the holes are equidistant from the bottom of the base.
   
5. Cut ribbons to length using the Thermocut, which automatically cuts and seals the ribbon ends. Alternatively, cut the ribbons to length and quickly pass through a flame to seal the ends.
   
6. Paint the base with gold Glitterific and the shamrock with peridot Extreme Glitter acrylic paints. Allow the paints to dry thoroughly.
   
7. Thread hanging ribbon and streamers through holes.
   
8. Use strong liquid adhesive to attach the shamrock to the base.
