This sliding book end project to as easy as it is useful. It's a great beginner project for learning more about Proxxon tools.

Supplies and Equipment for the Sliding Book End

  1. Determine the size of your finished book end. Mine measures 6" x 6". Cut your board to size on the table saw.
  2. Transfer measurement from the schematic to the board.
  3. Cut the slot using either the bandsaw or scroll saw.
  4. Use a quarter to make the rounded corners.

  5. Use the disc sander to round the corners.
  6. Sand all surfaces with the Delta sander.
  7. Paint and finish the book end with your choice of finishes. I used FolkArt Ultra Dye.
  8. You can decorate and embellish the book end, or leave as is. I added a book band book mark.

How to Make a Door Stop

A door stop can be a useful tool—or purely decorative home decor element. This door stop is easy to create using Proxxon MICROMOT Power Tools.

Supplies and Equipment for the Door Stop

Instructions for Making the Door Stop

  1. Using the schematic as a guide, mark the dimensions of the wood on both the top and side.
  2. Mark the rounded end of the door stop.
  3. Cut the top view of the door stop on the bandsaw. Then, cut the side view.
  4. Sand the rounded end of the door stop on the disc sander.
  5. Use the Delta sander to sand all surfaces, using progressively finer grits of sandpaper.
  6. Finish as desired—sealant, vanish, shellac, wax. I chose to polish the natural, unstained wood with a paste wax.
You could stop right here and have a perfectly functional door stop, but I wanted to add a little glam to mine so I made a decorative knob.

Instructions for Making the Decorative Knob for the Door Stop

  1. Mark the center of the 1½" square on the top of the door stop.
  2. Use the drill press to drill a pilot hole for the eye screw. Use a bit slightly smaller that the eye screw.
  3. Mix parts A and B of Apoxie Sculpt according to directions.
  4. Fill the candle cup with the Apoxie Sculpt, adding small amounts at a time and pressing in well to avoid air pockets.
  5. Insert the eye of the eye screw into the bottom of the candle cup.
  6. Thread a decorative bead onto a bead wire and insert into the top of the candle cup.
  7. Let dry overnight to fully cure the Apoxie Sculpt.
  8. Screw the eye screw into the pilot hole on the door stop.
  9. Enjoy your decorative—and useful—door stop.

How to Make a Napkin Holder

Keep your napkins in place with this decorative napkin holder. This project is easily made using Proxxon tools, and is a great beginner project.

Supplies and Equipment for the Napkin Holder

Instructions for Making the Napkin Holder

  1. Cut base from the ½" Baltic birch to size following template measurements using the table saw.
  2. Use a quarter to mark the rounded corners of the base.
  3. Sand the rounded corners using the disc sander.
  4. Mount the template for the napkin holder bar on the ¼" Baltic birch. Spray the reverse side of the template with spray adhesive. Cover the wood with painter's tape, then mount the pattern. The painter's tape makes it easy to remove the pattern without leaving any sticky residue.
  5. Use the bandsaw to cut the bar.
  6. Mark the positions for the holes in the base and the bar. Drill ¼" holes in the base for the dowel rods.
  7. Drill ½" holes in the napkin holder bar to allow it to easily slide onto the dowels.
  8. Cut the two 5" lengths of ¼" dowel on the bandsaw.
  9. Sand the surfaces with the Delta sander, using progressively finer grits of sandpaper.
  10. Glue the dowels into the base and allow to dry thoroughly.
  11. Paint the base with acrylic paint.
  12. Use Mod Podge to napkin collage the napkin holder bar. (This video demonstrates napkin collage.)
Enjoy your decorative napkin holder!!

How to Make a Floating Wine Bottle Pillar

This floating wind bottle pillar will amaze your friends!! It's also a great project for working with the angle adjustments on your Proxxon tools.

Supplies and Equipment for Making the Floating Wine Bottle Pillar

Instructions for Making the Floating Wine Bottle Pillar

  1. Set the longitudinal stop on the table saw so the cut board measures 3¼" wide.
  2. Measure and mark a line across the width 15" from the top.
  3. Adjust the angle of the bandsaw to 27° and cut on the marked line. This is the bottom of the pillar.
  4. Measure and mark a line 3 1/8" from the top. Measure 1 5/8" from one edge and mark a cross line. The intersection of the two lines is the center of the 1½" hole that you will drill.
  5. I pulled out DH's big drill for drilling the 1½" hole for the neck of the wine bottle.
  6. Sand the edges on the disc sander. Adjust the angle of the table to 27°to sand the bottom end of the pillar.
  7. Sand the surfaces with the Delta Sander, using progressively finer grits of sandpaper.
  8. Apply the finishing of your choice to the floating wine bottle pillar—paint, stain, wax. I chose a paste wax finish.
  9. Amaze your friends with a floating wine bottle!!
