How to make a decorative snow stick.

 It's coming... You know it is.... Winter is coming. and that means snow...    Well, for most of us anyway.   Now that I am retired I enjoy snow.  Used to hate to drive in it but now, staying home cuddled up and warm, looking out the window.  Yeah I like snow.  

 Today I have an easy project.  We are going to make a snow stick so that we know just how much snow is out there, without having to go out there.  😎

Project Supplies and equipment.

1 piece of scrap board, preferrably outdoor wood.   I am using a piece of 3/4 inch treated yellow wood that was once part of a dog-earred fence board. 

Proxxon mini bandsaw, or Proxxon mini scroll saw

Proxxon cordless mini belt sander

yardstick or ruler.

Plaid paints and other decorative tidbits if desired, glitter, etc. 

Outdoor sealer. 

My wood piece is approxamately 24 inches x 3 inches

I need a pointy end so I can hammer it into the ground,  I use about 7" for that.  I used the Proxxon mini bandsaw to cut the spike it but you can use the Proxxon scroll saw if you prefer.

Next I drew a rudimenttary snowman on top.   (Like the woodcarvers do fancy canes), and cut it out using the Proxxon mini scroll saw.  ↙

I painted it white for a first coat then painted my snowman on top with beautiful plaid paints. I painted  the stick brown.

I made a ground line then measured off my inches and painted them on my stick.

After a quick spary of sealer, he is ready to go live outside.

Let it Snow

Hello friends. Larissa here today with a snowman made from wood.

Supplies Used:
Proxxon Scroll Saw
White, Red and Green Paint
Chalk Paint in Licorice and Blood Orange Sorbet

Drill
Sandpaper
Paint Brushes

I cut the snowman out of a piece of thin plywood.  I then drilled holes around the edge of the snowman because I planned on putting lights in them.

I took a piece of sandpaper and went around the edges really quick just to make sure there were no rough edges. Then I painted the snowman and hat using some paint I had on my shelf. 

I have tried 3 different light sets I had here in my studio and have had no luck with them working. So tomorrow back to the city I drive to find me a set of lights that will work. :)

Hope you enjoyed my post. I know you can do this too. I didn't use a pattern for the snowman I just drew it out on the plywood before I started cutting.

Snowflakes 5¢

Yikes!! Only 82 days until Christmas!! Hope that's enough time for me to complete all the holiday projects spinning around in my head. Here's one I can't wait to display!

I adapted my snowman from Steve Good's snowman sign pattern. I prepared my pattern in Make-the-Cut, and mounted it onto 1/4" MDF (medium-density fiberboard) using these instructions:

1. Cover the surface of the substrate with painter's tape
2. Spray the back of the pattern with spray adhesive
3. Mount the pattern on top of the painter's tape

The spray adhesive holds the pattern in place, and the painter's tape makes removing it a breeze. I used my Proxxon Scroll Saw to cut the snowman pieces.

Next, I used the Proxxon Professional Rotary Tool to drill a small hole in the sign to hang a snowflake charm. I sealed the MDF with an acrylic medium before spray painting the individual pieces. When they were dry I assembled the snowman using E6000.

I'm never happy with my hand lettering, so I cut the words for the sign out of vinyl using my Zing electronic cutter.

I covered the stand piece with artist's cement and liberally sprinkled the surface with crystal glitter. While the cement was still wet, I stood the snowman in the "snow." When the artist's cement dried it formed a secure bond with the figure.
